Elementary Orchestra Recruitment Information

Things are a little different this school year, but Cumberland County Schools’ Elementary Orchestra program is moving forward! Parents of CCS students are invited to consider their child’s participation in this exciting music program.
Starting on the 5th-grade level, orchestra instruction in violin, viola, and cello is offered twice weekly during the school day. Orchestra classes are also available at the middle and high school levels. This school year, the elementary orchestra recruitment plan is as follows:
September 21 – 25, 2020 – Elementary “Virtual” School Visits
During this week, orchestra teachers “virtually visited” all 5th-grade classrooms throughout Cumberland County Schools. They explained what it is like to be a part of the orchestra program and how to play a string instrument. The teachers also showed a video about the orchestra program that features demonstrations of each instrument along with an ensemble of CCS’ Orchestra teachers performing in a quintet. After the virtual visit, principals shared with parents a link to the Parent Orchestra Registration Letter with a form that should be completed and returned by Friday, October 2.
September 28 – October 1, 2020 – Parent Nights Virtual Meets
If parents choose to enroll their child in the Orchestra Program, they are invited to attend one of the Parent Night Virtual Meets for each school district listed below. Members of the orchestra faculty will be available to answer questions, share information about the orchestra program, and counsel parents and students regarding the instrument size and selection.
Monday, September 28 from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, September 29 from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, September 30 from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, October 1 from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Parents and students who are unable to attend a Virtual Meet, can contact the Orchestra Teachers By Elementary School via email for further information.
For over 41 years, the CCS’ String Orchestra program has provided orchestra instruction to thousands of young musicians.
