Board of Education Meeting and Public Forum
The Cumberland County Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. for its regular monthly meeting and public forum in the Board Room of the Central Services’ building, located at 2465 Gillespie Street. The Board plans to recognize five Amazing Acts of Character Award recipients, local student athlete and Career and Technical Education (CTE) student award winners, the 2019 Wells Fargo Outstanding Educator Award recipients, and a Global Educator Digital Badge recipient. The meeting is open to the public.ENCORE Presentation Documentary Screening of RESILIENCE
CCS’ Central Services’ staff are being invited by CCS’ Student Services for a screening of the documentary “Resilience: The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope.” This event takes place on Thursday, May 14 from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. in the Central Services’ Board Room. RESILIENCE is a one-hour documentary that delves into the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the birth of a new movement to treat and prevent toxic stress and disrupt cycles of violence, addiction and disease. Students at Four Area Schools Anticipate Last Day
Friday, May 17 will be the end of the semester and the last day of school for students at Cumberland Polytechnic High School, Alger B. Wilkins High School, Cross Creek Early College High School and Cumberland International Early College High School. Students will be released early that day.

“A World of Change”
More than 550 Child Nutrition professionals from schools and offices across the county and their guests have plans to attend CCS’ Child Nutrition Services (CNS) Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, May 17 from 6:30 – 10:00 p.m. The event, which places the spotlight on the dedication of Child Nutrition workers, will take place in the Cumberland County Crown Arena. During the evening, recent retirees and those individuals and school staffs who deserve recognition for their hard work will be acknowledged. This year’s theme is “A World of Change.” For more information about the CNS Awards Banquet, call 910.678.2502.
