Board Approves Indian Education Coordinator

Fayetteville, NC – During the Cumberland County Board of Education’s February 12 regular monthly meeting, the following administrator was proudly announced: The Coordinator of Indian Education – Rodney Jackson will serve in the position of Coordinator of Indian Education for the Cumberland County Schools (CCS). “We believe that Mr. Jackson will be an asset to the Indian Education Program, community and the district because of his track record as a strong leader and dedication to all students,” said Dr. Mary Black, the associate superintendent of CCS’ Student Support Services. As the Coordinator of Indian Education, Jackson will work to meet the needs of and promote student achievement for the Indian, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native student population. “I hope to focus on the dropout rate among American Indian males,” said Jackson. “Currently it is at 7.2 percent, the highest among any ethnic group. I hope to also build a relationship with school principals, as we all work toward one goal — making sure all of our students are career ready.”

Jackson, who has worked as an assistant principal at Gray’s Creek Middle School and Terry Sanford High School, received his bachelor’s degree in science physical education and two master’s degrees in physical education and school administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Previously, the long-time educator served as a school administrator in Brunswick and Scotland counties.
