Students will jump rope, shoot hoops, dance or scramble their way through obstacle courses to learn about heart health while raising money for scientific research and outreach programs

Fayetteville — Students across Cumberland County have a new way to move their bodies toward heart health, earn benefits for their schools and give back to their community. The Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is joining forces with the American Heart Association to launch the Kids Heart Challenge™, which includes jump rope, basketball, dance and warrior (obstacle course) components. The Kids Heart Challenge™ marks the American Heart Association’s 40th year working in schools encouraging heart-healthy behavior.

To kick off the campaign, CCS’ Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr. issued a Kids Heart Challenge™ video message to encourage students to adopt healthy habits.

“The Kids Heart Challenge™ is a fun and exciting way to encourage our students to embrace a healthy lifestyle while raising funds to support student wellness,” said Dr. Connelly. “We are committed to preparing students for success by supporting their physical and emotional well-being.”

The Kids Heart Challenge™ encourages heart-healthy behavior as students pledge to be more physically active, drink more water and do a good deed. For teachers, the Kids Heart Challenge™ offers four activations to get students’ hearts pumping: jumping rope, playing basketball, dancing and participating in obstacle courses.

In addition to the new activations, the Kids Heart Challenge™ provides enhanced give-backs and incentive opportunities to reward participating schools and new, expanded curriculum resources supporting whole-child centered learning.

Funds raised through the Kids Heart Challenge™ support scientific research and outreach programs. For more information about the Kids Heart Challenge™, visit heart.org/kidsheartchallenge.
