Observing National School Counseling Week
In observance of National School Counseling Week (Feb. 4 – 8), educators from across the CCS will be gathering to celebrate and recognize the hard work of local school counselors. CCS’ School Counselor Recognition Luncheon will take place on Thursday, February 7 from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the Educational Resource Center.During the ‘by-invitation-only’ event, CCS’ 2019-2020 School Counselor of the Year will be announced.CCS’ 10th Chinese New Year Celebration
Cumberland County Schools’ World Language Department presents its 10th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration on Thursday, February 7 from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Seventy-First High School. According to organizers, from 5:00 – 5:45 p.m., Cultural Centers will be set up with hands-on, interactive cultural displays in the lobby of the auditorium. At 6:00 p.m., colorfully, creative Chinese New Year Celebration performances will begin in the auditorium. The public is invited to attend and admission is free. Special Meetings of the Board of Education
The Cumberland County Board of Education will hold special meetings for the purpose of conducting a Board retreat on Friday, February 8 at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 9 at 8:00 a.m. in the FTCC Horticulture Education Center, located at 670 N. Eastern Blvd in Fayetteville. The purpose of the meetings are to discuss short- and long-range planning for the school system. The meetings are open to the public.

Musical Talents of Middle School Band Students in the Spotlight
The County’s top middle school band students will perform during CCS’ 2018-2019 All-County Band Concert on Saturday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Gray’s Creek High School. To prepare for the concert, students will participate in a two-day intensive musical clinic on Friday, February 8 and on Saturday, February 9. The concert program will include a variety of classical and contemporary musical selections. This year’s clinic and concert are being conducted by Chris Ferguson, the band director at the Braxton Craven School in Trinity, NC, and
David Stroud, the director of bands at Newport Middle School in Newport, NC. The public is invited to attend and admission is free. For more information, contact CCS’ Arts Education Supervisor Lydia Stewart at 910.678.2622 or lydias@ccs.k12.nc.us.
